Compilation of the year at "The 2006 Carolina Beach Music Awards!"

This compilation is all about the abundance of our local music talent and the creativity in the songs they are turning out. There are familiar names in Beach music as well as some new faces on the scene. With lots of new ideas and material, it has only taken a short time for many of the tunes featured here to take off and begin to hit the charts.



Letâs start off with The Young Guns, which features Scott Fine and the Morrison brothers from the Band of Oz as well as John Thompson, Jr. and Jake Bartley. They have hit a home run with an exciting upbeat version of a song entitled Nights Like This. Now you may think youâve heard that song before, but where? Maybe from an Indianapolis, Indiana based soul group called After 7 on the movie soundtrack for The Five Heartbeats back in 1991?



Doug Manning, formerly of North Tower, has written many songs in his career. One of his most recent is a soulful smooth number on this compilation called So Hung Up On You, performed by Gary Brown and already moving up the Beach charts. Dougsâ 15 year old daughter Taylor has written and performs a tune included here that is beyond her years entitled Mr. Wrong. It is garnering quite a bit of attention from the club and radio DJs. The Grand Strandâs own Sea Cruz extends their hot string of recent hits with an outstanding bluesy cut of I Donât Want No Man.



Although the scratch track was available to DJâs several years ago, Durham, North Carolinaâs Fabulous Jelly Rolls have now officially released Lie To Me. I liked it then and I sure like it now! Big John Thompson and The Rhythm Brothers continue their pursuit of gospel flavored tunes with a nice charting rendition of Cooling Water (from Grandmaâs well, thatâs what weâre talking about). Two Steps Forward is considered the headliner track from The Castawaysâ new CD entitled Generation Six. It is currently in the Top 45 and moving upward.



Another hard charging Top 45 entry is Wild Thang from The Band of Oz. Lia Long and Mike Taylor give us a dance club version of Marvin and Tammiâs Motown classic Ainât Nothing Like The Real Thing. Additional songs from this CD that have made a recent move are Rhonda McDanielâs You Got What It Takes and the reggae flavored Comets In The Sky by heavy rocker band The Tribe from Gallatin, Tennessee. Rhondaâs latest is in The Endless Summer Networkâs Top Ten.
