Details:
LK (Lawrence King) fell in love with Hip Hop as a young teen one evening while doing his nightly chore of dishwashing. He was busting suds listening to the radio when the DJ debuted a song by a New York rapper, Doug E. Fresh, called The Show. The next day he went to the record store, bought the 12-inch single and began a deep love and appreciation of a sound, a culture and a movement. Years later he moved into the DC underground Hip Hop scene where he was part of the Hip Hop group Wicked City, co-promoter of the Hip Hop Forum, a weekly event that featured MC & DJ Battles, and an up-and-coming producer creating music for other aspiring artists.
All of that came to an end on a dark Monday night in May 2000 when his younger brother Damion Mikel King was found brutally murdered only two blocks from his home. After his brother was laid to rest, LK put his love for Hip Hop on the backburner and began searching for answers to his brother's senseless unsolved murder, determined to find those responsible. After months of trying to piece together a puzzle that consisted of rumors, half-truths. uncooperative witnesses and police officers who seemed to be too busy to follow up on leads, LK became frustrated. Determined not to give up, LK went back to the thing he once loved, Hip Hop, and created UNSOLVED.
UNSOLVED, written and produced by LK, is dedicated to his brother and to others who have no closure with their loved one's unsolved murder. This CD is unlike anything that Hip Hop has ever heard before. It will enlighten, educate, inspire, inform, humor and touch those who choose to quench their ears and thirst for something new. This CD has a message written from the heart and reaches to the heart of the listener. LK has produced a tapestry of lyrics and beats that will have your speakers thumping and your mind jumping. As your ears travel through its 17 tracks you will come across such topics as losing a loved one (You're Gone, Your Spirit Lives On and Our Heart Cries Tears) to appreciation of family and friends on The Sun Don't Shine Everyday to the uplifting and respect of females on Babydoll and many more. While listening to this CD you will undoubtedly recognize reflections of people you know in You Know Him (You Know Her) and places you've lived on In My City.
UNSOLVED will set off a wake-up alarm between your ears. We hope that this reality helps you in everyday life. Share this CD with family and friends both young and old. It will advance a respectful trend that will make the world a better place and shine light on life's unsolved mysteries.
