Details:
Cut from the same cloth as Canadian folk heroes Stan Rogers and James Keelaghan, McKinnon is both a masterful writer of insightful history-based songs and a full-on performer with a booming baritone voice that can fill any room.

Over the course of five solo recordings McKinnon, armed with a degree in history, has blown the dust off Nova Scotia's seafaring past and breathed life into the colourful history of this corner of the world. His most recent album, Fields of Dreams and Glory, marks a highpoint in his recording career. Produced by Paul Mills in Toronto, the album has opened important new doors for this artist and garnered reviews in prestigious trade publications in Canada and abroad.

âQuite simply heâs one of the most genuinely engaging performers I know. Dan has a gorgeous baritone voice with and exceptional command of phrasing, light and shade â perfect for conveying the nuances and narratives of his uniformly finely-crafted songs⦠you owe it to yourself to discover his talent at the earliest opportunity.â (David Kidman, Tykes News, England)

âDanâs storytelling skills are at their finest on this Paul Mills produced discâ¦. Dan McKinnon puts so much heart and soul into his music that listening to him, be it live or on CD, is a healing experience.â (Mary Beth Carty, Penguin Eggs, Summer 2006)

âDan McKinnon's singing and playing have been refined to a high level over the years, and his comfortable stage presence invites the audience into his insightful songs. Although reminiscent of Stan Rogers' powerful voice, Dan has his own style that people immediately warm to. His workshop performances at the Opera House illustrated his ability to smoothly integrate with other musicians on stage. Dan is one of Nova Scotia's musical treasures and his appearances will be warmly appreciated by audiences, no matter what the venue.â (Garry Woodcock, President Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival)

âIf you like your John McCutcheon with a twist of Stan Rogers then either a fan of Dan McKinnon or soon to be. A master storyteller in the same league but with an edge of his own. Not a copy cat but one who struts the same tin roof. Check him out.â (Phil Young, DJ, Folk On The Fringe - 3MDR Melbourne, Australia)

âDan has a glorious voice, a flowing, melodic guitar style and a commanding authority in performance. This combines with a modest charm and gentle humour to make him irresistible to an audience. Dan McKinnon is his own best advertisement. Time and again, we have seen him perform to a room full of strangers and leave a room full of friends.â (Nancy & Sam Hudson, Willow Roots Folk Club, Nottingham, England)

âWhether singing about a life experience or an historical event, his knack for storytelling puts the listener in the moment.â (John Ferguson, Celtic Heritage Magazine)
