Details:
"Music means everything to me; it is my release, my passion, and my love..." (Megan Lane)
"...Every city we play in draws a crowd because word gets out that Iâm a 18-year-old girl who plays a mean guitar, but once we start to play, who I am on the outside is no longer a factor. One hundred percent emotion is put into my music, and thatâs why audiences want more once they see me play. I get lost in my music, and they feel my intense passion. I began writing and performing my own material at the age of 12, and Iâve been hooked ever since. I started out strictly playing the blues, now blues is just my canvas, and the painting that is created on that canvas is anything and everything it wants to be. I describe moments in time through music, capturing my most intense feelings inside of songs..."
So says Saskatchewanâs singer/songwriter and guitarist Megan Lane, who, together with band members Jordan Trask (drums) and David "The Squid" Parker (bass guitar) have been rockinâ out all over the country. Their sound - a rock, blues and jazz fusion - combines Meganâs own unique style with the influences of Jimi Hendrix, Fiona Apple, Jonny Lang and Jeff Buckley. Meganâs steamy vocals, moving lyrics and passionate guitar playing create a performance that is not only classic, but fresh and original.
Megan Lane has been regularly booked in venues in major cities across Canada including Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal - just to name a few. Main stage performances at many music festivals have included The SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, The Ness Creek Music Festival, The Delta Blues Festival, The Flatland Music Festival, and The North Country Fair. Megan has been featured on CBC Radio's "The Gallery" and on CTVâs âGood Morning Canadaâ. Her songs are heard on CBC radio, Rawlco radio and many community radio stations throughout Canada .
2005 certainly showcased Meganâs diverse talent to the country. She starred in the Saskatchewan âs Lieutenant Governorâs Centennial Gala attended by Queen Elizabeth II performing her original song â Just Like Meâ. Throughout the program she also performed on stage with Colin James, Brad Johner, Connie Kaldor, Teresa Sokyrka, Andrea Menard and Dionne Taylor. In July she was invited to perform a tribute to Joni Mitchell on Parliament Hill for Canada Day and she was part of Saskatchewan âs Centennial âCrop Checkinâ Tour alongside Wide Mouth Mason, Tom Cochrane and Kyle Riabko.
Many times during Meganâs short busy career she has been billed as a âyoung guitar whizâ. But itâs not just her age that has elicited the respect of her peers in the music industry, but her sheer musical talent and drive. As a result she has had the pleasure sharing the stage with other talented musicians and guitar greats including Jack Semple, Shaun Verrault, Kyle Riabko, Jordan Cook, Big Dave McLean, Ruthie Foster, Jeremy Fisher, Josh Palmer, Sam Cockrell, Dan Silger, and The Mocking Shadows in many different venues and showcases.
Megan Lane âs debut CD Purple and Blue released in 2004 with her band members Deep Set Soul was nominated by The Western Canadian Music Awards for âOutstanding Blues Recordingâ. This artistically intricate album, fully produced and 90 written by Megan Lane shows Megan's incredible diversity and her passion for music.
This September Megan released Wrapped in Plastic, a blues influenced rock and pop album. This album is also an introspective blend of songs that characterize Meganâs stellar songwriting skills paralleled only by her gut wrenching guitar style.
When time permits, Megan, an advocate of human rights, often gives her time to play at charitable events and benefits. They have included The Red Cross, Interval House, Oxfam, Saskatoon Pride, Tamara House and The Cancer Society and last year Megan was deeply honoured to be awarded The Commemorative Medal for the Centennial of Saskatchewan by Lieutenant Governor, Dr.Lynda Haverstock. This medal recognized individuals who have made significant contributions to society and honours their outstanding achievements.
