With a sound that shoots up the spine and out of a raised fist, The Mishaps' new 7â Rock and Roll proves that old fashioned rock isn't always for the good and old. Neal Page fronts the band while Johnny Bungalow grizzles on the bass, John Fatur is on drums, and Beth Harper plays the keyboards like a dab of lip gloss on an already well-formed sneer.
Produced by Chris Camden of Liar's Academy, this album features the song "Rock + Roll" which boasts a modern beat and chunky guitar breaks. If The Hives had grown up dealing with the American flapdoodle, they would have created a song like this.
The song "Woke the Devil Up" has enough power behind it to be a certifiable anthem for bad-asses everywhere. The guitars play fast and tight while the beat of the drum seems to foretell some apocalyptic doom. Rock and Roll certainly helps the band live up to The Who and MC5, two bands they have often been compared to.
Wallride Records, the very same guys who released albums by Drag the River and The Swims, put out Rock and Roll. Currently, The Mishapsâ sound has evolved due to the inclusion of their new guitartist Nancy H.
When describing music, it's really a shame that the words "fun" and "energetic" bring about connotations of girls in pigtails and pink tank-tops. The Mishaps take energy and fun and strap them to a nuclear reactor that radiates face-melting Rock and Roll.
