Acrojunk weren't formed, they more sorta 'happened'

In early 2006, five obsessively different, and very musical people joined forces after circling each other like hungry sharks for something like six months. A tale of some intricacy but one worth hearing. You see, three of the members were already playing together, in a group called "The Bearded Ladies". One Bearded Lady was also heavily involved in a percussion group, a member of whom agreed to join The Bearded Ladies following an incident involving fish and chips! Four really needed to become five, and the final member was found at a street carnival, where he was playing feedback-fuelled guitar, encircled by flying monkeys, all the while suspended 20 feet off the ground. He also sported a beard (happy days), which fitted quite nicely with the already apparent hairy motif. After many heated debates, the new band of musicians settled on the name "Acrojunk", it being the best name they could come up with that they least hated.

In their previous incarnation as "The Bearded Ladies", Robert O'Connor (vocals/guitar), Marc Merriman (percussion/keyboards) and Ben Clooney (bass) slowly built somewhat of a national profile in recent years playing numerous gigs throughout the country. They have shared stages with well-known acts such as The Walls, Mark Geary, Fred, Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club, Turn and Tenspeedracer. Their stage performances were characterised by their frenetic energy and upbeat nature and earned favourable notices in the press:

ACROJUNK have grown even larger, in both sound and numbers, with the addition of Dave Manser (guitar), and Trevor Nolan (drums) bringing a wealth of musical experience. Dave was formerly a member of the now defunct but very well-thought-of "The Real". Meanwhile, Trevor was flexing his drumming muscles in the percussion group "Torann".

In February 2005, Robert released a solo EP, "Songs in Various Keys", and the much lauded 'five-tracker' has received national radio play with stations around Ireland, happily giving it airplay. A selection of which are WLRFM, Beat 102-103, RedFM, FM104, Flirt FM, Galway Bay FM and Live 95.

The EP also earned the auspicious 'Pick of the Fortnight' honour from the 'First Cuts' column in Hotpress magazine:

"... a serious contender on the home front, if not beyond."

Acrojunk released their first EP "The Cold Old Playboy" in February 2007. They immediately went back into the studio and are currently working on their first album.
