Details:
Iâve been writing, playing, and performing music for almost 28 years. As a child I was constantly surrounded by gospel music. My first live performance was at the Baptist church we attended. I was about seven at the time. I sang lead while my mom and sister sang harmony. At home we pretty much had only two choices of music to pick from, gospel or country. Needless to say, that those types of music became part of me. But when I became a teenager, rock ânâ roll moved in. As my hair grew longer, my taste in music changed.
My musical influences are, Chuck Berry, Elvis, The Beatles, Foghat, and Gary Richrath formerly of R. E. O. Speedwagon. There are many others, to many to list. But these are the ones that I have learned from the most.
I was a founding member of a local rock and roll group called STRATUS.
The band started in January 1981.
In June of 81, we went into Sugar Creek Studio and recorded two of my original
Songs, (BREAK DOWN and I FEEL BAD). They were played from time to time on a local rock station, KSHE 95. The group went on with an ever- changing line-up for sixteen years. During that time we released the self- titled, STRATUS recording in 1989,
and HOLDING ON TO YOU in 1996. I also recorded more of a solo effort titled, ALAN LEE, in 1992.
After many years of paying locally, performing in front of so many people, and the constant changing of band members, I decided it was time to stop and take some time off. During which time my parents reminded me, many times, how they would like to see me write and record songs like those on the ALAN LEE release. The difference between those songs and the STRATUS songs was that the ALAN LEE album was a mixture of rockabilly, country, and blues. So with there encouragement I decided to give it a try.
I purchased a 16 track digital recorder, and some other odds and ends equipment that would be needed to record at home. Now there are a few things you need to know, to totally understand what a huge undertaking the recording part of this project was.
First of all, I had never been in the recording engineer seat behind the mixing board before. So the very first thing I had to learn, was how to work the equipment I had laid out my hard earned money on. The problem I had at this point was that whole learning curve thing. Digital recorders come with these inch thick books that you have to read, and re-read, and re-read until a forty-something year old brain can retain the information needed to control the recorder, not to mention the other books and manuals that came with the other odds and ends equipment.
My next problem was finding the best place in my house to do the recording. It had to have really good acoustics. After much thought, my wife told me where I could put my recorder. Of course, her idea could not physically happen. So I ended up recording in our bedroom. The deal went like this. I could only have a few pieces of equipment out at a time. I could not leave anything set up. And I could not change a thing in the room.
Acoustically I lucked out, the room sounded great. I used the walk-in closet for a singing both.
At this time I started working on the 2004 release of âALAN CAINEâ.
All guitar parts, bass, acoustic, and electric were played by me. The same goes for the vocals, lead or harmony they are all yours truly. The only other person you will hear is Ron Sikes on drums and percussion.

Two years later with the help of a drum machine, and a guitar synthesizer, I finished my 2006 release,â LOST IN YESTERDAYâ. The songs on this CD are a little more rock and roll with much stronger lead guitar parts. I really like this CD because it covers a lot of musical styles. I hope you enjoy âLOST IN YESTERDAYâ as much as I enjoyed writing and recording it.
