Alas Negras was formed in late 2003 by Giancarlo Martinez (Vocals) and Ramon Velez (Guitar). Since its formation the band has played numerous shows around the island, building a fan base everywhere they play. In 2006 they released their first CD entitled Solo Dos Monedas (Just Two Coins). Joining the ranks are Cristian Gonzalez, Christian Santos and Ivan Velazquez on guitar. Rounding up the band are Roberto Marin on bass and Arturo Rivera on drums. Sadly, in 2006, original member Ramon left the band for personal reasons. The bands influence is, and style, can only be described as Heavy Metal. The lyrics, mostly in Spanish, stem from the historic, literary, philosophical, and social aspects of the world in which we live. These elements provide their listeners with more than music; they also tell a story. Visually the band puts on a great show. Each of its members takes command of the stage giving the audience a show they wont forget. One aspect of Alas Negras that sets them apart from the likes of other metal bands in Puerto Rico is their 3 guitar players. When each guitarist takes to the stage, each with his unique style and influence, they give the audience more than they expected; when they harmonize they create a captivating melody. The Bass player gives brings emotion to each song while the drummer provides the intensity that drives them like an army marching towards the battlefield. Not one to be last is the vocalist; a true showman. He creates a rapport with his audience that engulfs them in the intensity and fire of their music, and compels them with meaning. All of this elements make Alas Negras a unique band in their genre & country. Like their song says Solo Dos Monedas para partir (Only two coins for the journey to begin). ..
