About Anthony Burbidge:

Chronic physical illness, emotional turmoil, and a touch of spiritual madness can all add up to some excellent grist for a songwriterâs mill. Such was the case of Anthony Burbidge, the Canadian singer whose path to the creation of his latest CD, âNewborn,â was fraught with unforeseen opportunities for personal, artistic and spiritual growth.

In 1993, during his graduate year of the classical music program at Mt. Allison University, Burbidge released his debut disc titled, âThe Road To Rome.â Shortly after, however, the singerâs life took an unexpected turn when he succumbed to an uncommon condition known as Environmental Illness.

In the interest of healing himself, Burbidge put aside his musical aspirations for what he expected would be a year of well-deserved rest and recovery. What followed, however, was a decade long journey that would take the songwriter not only into the heart of his illness but also to the very core of his being.

While he struggled to recover his health, Burbidge also held down a full time job that kept him close to the music he so dearly loved. As a manager of an independent CD store, the singer had access to a wealth of music and immersed himself in over ten thousand albums, both broadening and deepening his musical palette in preparation for his inevitable return to the stage.

In late 2004, the singer relinquished his profession as a seller of songs in exchange for a new career as a singer of songs. Throughout 2005-06, Burbidge honed his skills in the recording studio, began performing live again and, most importantly, penned a library of moving songs born from his own spiritual journey.

At the urging of his audience, in early 2007 (fourteen years after his first CD), Burbidge released his sophomore disc, âNewborn,â an acoustic collection of intimate songs revealing the character and quiet wisdom of one who has been through the dark night of the soul and resurfaced as a worker of light.
