No-account no wave blues from San Antonio, Texas; Boxcar Satan deconstructs American roots music and pours a particularly venomous brand of self-loathing noise from the demon bottle.
5 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Punk, GOSPEL: Traditional Gospel
Details:
Boxcar Satan puts its hands on the gospel plough and gives it a sharp 90-degree turn on this five-song disk recorded live on a Texas tour with Brooklyn, New York's Rev. Vince Anderson. Vince is the originator of a style known as panty droppin' gospel which involves him pounding the piano like Jerry Lee and Doctor John while singing like the bastard son of Tom Waits and Blind Willie Johnson. He provides the tunes and the Boxcars capably back him up. It may be a match made in Heaven, but it's a Hell of a lot of fun.
"The Rev. Vince hails from Bakersfield, California. Itâs Bible belt country - petro-chemicals and agri-business. Everyone loves Jesus, including Vince, and this is his Pilgrimâs Progress. So, thereâs Gospel here but thereâs Rock & Roll and R&B too. Imagine Tom Waits, if heâd been influenced more by Little Richard and Jerry Lee than by Charlie Parker and Harry Partch and youâll get the picture." - Jazzwise Magazine
"Reverend Anderson provides a bourbon soaked 'Pilgrim's Progress' that stretches through dark bars and the abandoned haunts of forgotten loves." - Ink 19
"His shows straddle the fence between holy fellowship and bawdy showmanship. While confessing his all too human flaws, the Reverend preaches a sincere, intellectually unfashionable message: You need Jesus. He needs Jesus. We are all imperfect. And Jesus loves us anyway." - Billburg.com
