WINNERS!!!!! - March 2006 - Victoria, B.C.'s Monday Magazine, in their 2005 "M" Awards have named Children of Celebrities as "Favourite Group" and Middle Age Wasteland as "Favourite Local CD Released in 2005"
Children of Celebrities showcase their original songs in an acoustic settingâguitars, bass, mandolin, fiddleâwith the occasional harmonica, mandola, banjo, horns and other instruments added to the mix. The Children have also been known to put their own stamp on an eclectic blend of songs, ranging from swing standards to Tom Waits, Merle Travis, The Grateful Dead and many more. They describe their sound as âenviro cowboy lounge musicâ.
Brand X Media writes "...the album is well-rounded with elements of black humour narrative and off-kilter aesthetics...the album is pretty damn good...and a good listen for the whole dysfunctional family." And the Victoria Times Colonist adds "an excellent new CD, Middle Age Wasteland...how can you resist? You can't."
2005 Island Music Awards nominee for Producer/Engineer of the Year is Tolan McNeil for Children of Celebrities Middle Age Wasteland!
New in 2006 - "Cavalcade of the Scars" - a new compilation CD featuring 20 of Victorias' hottest indie bands, including "Retro Help", a new song from Children of Celebrities.
Begin your Children of Celebrities journey on the pages of our website, a journey not for the faint of heart!
Ross Moroz in the Edmonton Vue writes, "For all the bitching Edmonton musicians do about how claustrophobially stifling the insular nature of our music scene is, Cavalcade of the Scars shows that, at least in the case of Victoria, this kind of artistic incest can lead to some amazingly beautiful musical moments. Witness Dante Decaro (of the decidedly non-folk Hot Hot Heat and Wolf Parade) playing an authentic, irony-free, foot-stomping country rag, appearing on the same album as the surprisingly catchy middle-aged folkies Children of Celebrities."
Children of Celebrities released their highly anticipated debut CD, Middle Age Wasteland, in 2005. Twelve of the thirteen songs on Middle Age Wasteland are original â a little bit folk, a little bit country, a little bit rock ânâ bluegrass, a little bit off the wall. The recording took place at Lucky Mouse Studio in the summer and fall of 2004. Victoria's Monday Magazine writes, "Looking for some music to nod your head and tap your toes to? Check out Children of Celebrities, who inhabit that nebulous middle ground between country, bluegrass and whatever it is that Tom Waits does". You can hear sample tracks from the CD by clicking on âListenâ and you can order a copy by clicking on âContactâ.
Children of Celebrities are often seen busking to large and raucous crowds on the streets of downtown Victoria, British Columbia, happily performing for the newly wed and the nearly dead. The band has appeared at some of Victoriaâs favourite music venues, including The Spiral Café, The Solstice Café, The Sunday Hootenanny at Loganâs, the Moss Street Market, Steamerâs Pub and Lucky Bar. Children of Celebrities have also performed at Brand X Mediaâs hugely successful âDeath to Rocktoriaâ shows.
Prior to the release of Middle Age Wasteland, Children of Celebrities songs have been played on the national CBC radio show, Richardsonâs Roundup, on CFUV-FM in Victoria and the band has been featured as video artist-of-the-week on CHUMâs New VI television station!
Children of Celebrities are Rob Egan (vocals, guitar), John Cornes (vocals, bass), Wayne Alleman (vocals, mandolin, mandola), Mike Raymer (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Mike Regimbal (vocals, fiddle, banjo, percussion).
