Early Stevie Wonder has a child with Peter Gabriel, this child goes to Paris and records a funky single that will get even good stoners to dance.
2 MP3 Songs
POP: Today's Top 40, POP: Beatles-pop
Details:
This single is the result of a chance meeting at a concert in Paris in 2004. Corder was there with his friends Marc Bianchi and Eyad Kaileh of Her Space Holiday, the headliners (also playing were a young Cocorosie and their tall skinny bearded friend Devendra Banhart). Towards the finale of the HSH show, while Marc's girlfriend at the time was busy dumping a beer on a schmuck who had been bad-mouthing the band, Corder ran into Phillipe Dalecky, producer-extraordinaire and half of the NY-duo Philosophy. Dalecky is known as the guy that recorded Jim Morrison reading his poetry for an entire day, three days before Jim was found dead. Corder and Dalecky hit it off and planned to do some recording in the future.
In January 2007, Corder was sitting on a song that was his favorite to sing that he had ever written. Even though he had formally stopped pursuing a music career to focus on his painting, "Dream On" was too good and too fun NOT to record. He called Phillipe in Paris, Phillipe said "Let's do it, brother," and Corder headed up on the train. They recorded the song in the same room where Morrison had recorded his poetry. Dalecky laid down the beats, bass, keyboards and guitar and Corder laid down about 6 vocal tracks. The second voice that is sort of a drugged sounding Flav giving support to the lead, was completely improv, including the middle break, "...whole way of world/world falling apart/minds going crazy/never know how to start/never know what to say or what to do/where to go/till I found you."
Corder grew up on a steady diet of Stevie Wonder - Talking Book, Innervisions and Songs In The Key Of Life. There are elements of Stevie in the single, mixed with Peter Gabriel, Thriller, and Air. All comes together to create something that Corder doesn't usually create: a top-40 sounding radio-friendly danceable groove.
"Every day on the run yeah
had to swallow all my pride
Waking up all alone yeah
had no-one at my side
Always dreaming about you
always hold you in the sky
With your love and devotion
I can hold my head up high
chorus:
I've got you (Dream on) coming into my life
Been burned on the inside
been holding all my breath
Tears run down my cheek yeah
had almost nothing left
chorus
break
Saved the greatest day
of my life for you my love
Holding onto redemption
you know I wear it like a glove
As I sit and I ponder
and I watch the world go by
Gonna hold up my head
gonna hold my head up high
chorus
