Darpan Patel is a singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, producer, performer and a multi-instrumentalist with a difference. The list signifies a natural progression for an aspiring artist, but it is also the coming together of an Eastern heritage and a Western upbringing. It is the synergy of music & culture. His music is defined as 'Progressive World Soul'.

Darpan has been singing since childhood but only seriously began studying and creating music after completing his degree at the London School of Economics at the age of 21. Having been inspired by several individual personal performances, Darpan decided to sign-up at the Soul Experience Vocal Academy in Hackney, London. Whilst working part-time at a music store and rehearsing at Weststar Studios in Southall on a daily basis, D, as he was known back then, studied under Patrick Jean-Paul Denis, an established British Gospel Artist and Music Coach. At the academy, Darpan learnt the many aspects of music as a vocalist, not just the psychological and practical elements to being a singer, but the music theory and technology required to become a professional musician.

Darpan continued at the academy for many years on a part-time basis whilst working for a financial services firm in the City of London and contracting at various other companies. Over the many years to follow, he would become a consultant and an accountant to support his family, his music & himself. He spent several years developing & maintaining Shambala Studios, the home of his digital creations and finally set-up a record label, VedicSoul Records.

On his journey, Darpan found the Chinmaya Mission, a not-for-profit organisation with the sole purpose of spreading the knowledge of Vedanta. This ancient Indian philosophy teaches the science of spiritual connectivity & oneness through the wisdom of value-based living. With the mission, Darpan has been able to study and practice Vedanta whilst also developing his musical and creative abilities in the form of service to the community. He currently teaches music and holds music workshops for youth on a regular basis. The youth group is affectionately known as ChykSoul. Darpan is currently involved in a major youth project called V.I.A. (Vedanta In Action). The current Head of the Chinmaya Mission is also a master musician and has inspired Darpan immensely. Darpan shares the following philosophy with anyone who wishes to learn music:

"Use your knowledge of the note,
And your love for the sound,
To become the music".

Soon after beginning his search for meaning through music & spirituality, Darpan rediscovered his Indian musical roots and studied the foundations of Classical Indian Music under Shankar Ganguly, a renowned Semi-Classical/Folk artist. With his new teacher he learnt the basic ragas and tabla, developing an understanding and appreciation of the musical heritage of India. The music of India holds 3 principles as paramount when studying the arts. These are: Teacher/Student bond, Practice & Humility.

Above all, from each teacher, or Guru as he thinks of them, Darpan has learnt the 'art of man-making'. To go out alone into the world and find oneself through all of life's experiences. To find a constant amongst the continuous change. Through life's series of opposites, the ups and downs, the good and bad, the right and wrong, with the support of those around him, Darpan has always come 'back to the music'. His latest recording reflects this, 'Lift Yourself'.
