DayDream Project is a unique group. They offer a blend of Rock, Pop, Classic Rock and mainstream top 40 that is reminiscent of the Beatles, The Eagles and classical Rock groups of the past such as Jethro Tull and Super Tramp. But, their music doesnât stop there. They are able to compete in the contemporary arena with Daniel Powter, James Blunt, Taylor Hicks and Rob Thomas.
The group is the reunion and creation of two old friends from the good old Rock days of the 1970s when the Doobie Brothers and Lynard Skynard monopolized the airwaves. Bill & Phil performed with a couple of very successful local Washington area groups at the time. And the two became fast friends. They were always sitting around on their spare time singing harmonies and creating new music. âWe would sing stuff like Rambling Man, and Country Roads and record it on a cassette machineâ said Phil. The two even worked the same day job and would perform for the kids they worked with.
Bill went out to California and studied Music in college and Phil went to Nashville where he lived for 8 years and met Angela his wife. Phil had some songs published in Nashville though it was a difficult market to sell songs in if you didnât write Country Music.
Angela was introduced to the Music Business by her brother who performed in local groups and wrote a handful of songs. And her cousin Jimmy McBride who wrote some hit songs for Alan Jackson and a few others. Angela grew up singing at church and around the house.
Only two months after getting married Phil & Angela moved back to the Washington/Baltimore area. There they performed in clubs and private parties to supplement their income. The duo recorded an album titled âThese Daysâ after reuniting with some old friends. And then, in 2000 Phil found Billâs email on their high school website and they were reunited. Musically they picked up right where they left off. The chemistry between us is magic says Phil. In the Music Business where thereâs chemistry Thereâs good music. DayDream ProJect is a collaboration of two experienced musicians and Angelaâs voice which compliments the vocal harmonies that the group incorporates in their original material.
Bill is an accomplished Lead Guitarist who is influenced by both the Jazz and Rock genres And Phil is able to create melodies that will stay with you for a long time. Rounding out the group is Tommy Preston a Baltimore Drummer who needed little time to fit in. He has a great understanding of where the group is going musically.
In January 2006 Bill & Phil wanted to do an album that would reflect the music that had brought them together while staying in a contemporary mode. So, Phil began by writing âPunch The Airâ which became the first track on the just released album âWe Might As Well Danceâ. The album is a collection of 13 tracks almost all of them written in an 11 month period leading up to the albumâs release. The album was produced by Phil in his home studio in Edgewater Maryland.
One of the most popular songs on the album thus far is the poignant song âAnother Centuryâ which brings a Baby Boomer face to face with the realities of the 21st century. Audiences love to dance to the tune when the group performs live shows.
âThe Empty Spaceâ remembers 9/11 from the everyday New Yorkerâs point of view.
The title song âWe Might as Well Danceâ is very danceable. The subject matter is an illicit affair looked at from the people who are involved in it. And then there is âBig Mistakeâ and âPush Has Come To Shoveâ which are songs about breaking up. Though one song deals with falling out with a friend and the other a love relationship. The group also invited Peggy Greenman to guest on âBeyond the Harborsâ on which she played Piano & Flute in the touching ballad of Hope, Dreams and Imagination.
Each track is musically different and very melodic while rocking your socks off. âWorking Class Bluesâ is a great example of this. Itâs like âPure Prairie Leagueâ meets Bon Jovi.
Each song on the album has something to say for everyone. And as the words say on the liner notes of the album âWe will get old when we get thereâ DayDream ProJect continues to dream and produce great music.
