Chicagoâs Down The Line continues to demonstrate that you donât need electricity to generate real power. Their third full-length album, For All You Break (scheduled for release March 9 at the Park West, Chicago), delivers mighty hooks and harmonies within smart songcraft and truly shining vocals. Itâs an acoustic mixâguitar, mandolin, violin, harmonica and djembe, driven by a lone-electric bassâthat the Chicago Sun-Times praised as âan organic blend of rollicking pop.â The group prefers to describe their sound more simply: acoustic pop. (Although when pressed, they explain, âIf The Cars had kids with Fleetwood Mac, well, theyâd probably sound like us.â) However you label them, Down The Line creates music thatâs pure, unique and unforgettable.

The 13 never-played songs on For All You Break were arranged and recorded in only 12 days, a purposeful departure from the months-long recording processes of Down The Lineâs two previous albums, Please Remember My Name and Welcome To Flavortown. That self-imposed schedule intensity resulted in energetic and urgent performances by band members Levi Britton (acoustic guitar, vocals), Derek Fawcett (djembe, vocals), Dan Myers (harmonica, mandolin, violin, vocals), and Dave Rothkopf (acoustic guitar, bass, vocals). Down The Lineâs For All You Break reminds us that acoustic music can indeed be electrifying.

For All You Break will be released March 9 at an all-ages performance at the Park West, Chicago. Soon after, Down The Line travels to Austin, Texas for a debut showcase at the South by Southwest music festival. The bandâs 2007 schedule will take them across the nation, including a touring stint as openers for classic rock icons America.
