Down With The Butterfly is made up of David Scholten, Kris Pope, Jason Burns and Ian Sherwood but sometimes the group expands with the addition of strings and other things. Its hard to describe their sound but its a bit like Brit Rock meets American folk music with a hint of train wreck drumming. Their songs challenge your ear, not because they want you to work for it, but simply put- if a DWTB song doesn't need to return to a chorus, it just doesn't and moves off in a carefully arranged manner.

Down with the Butterfly is intense, beautiful and insightful. It is despair with hope. It's more than just a band, it's a family of idealists trying to make sense of a beautiful world that often tears us apart.

Down With The Butterfly are from Halifax, Nova Scotia and inspired and encouraged there. They played their first show as a band in May of 2005 and with the help of industry and friends, released their debut CD in May of 2006. Since then, the album has been nominated for New Artist/Group Recording Of The Year and Alternative Recording Of The Year with Music Nova Scotia! The album has also been on Earshot's Top 30 Charts all across Canada, including Halifax's CKDU for 8 weeks (2 weeks at #1) and most recently has been added to CKDU's Top 100 albums of 2006, coming in at #23! They've also showcased with CBC Galaxie Rising Stars (July 2005), JunoFest 2006 (March 2006) and most recently played the Halifax Pop Explosion (October 2006).
