âBIOâ
âPurâ, was born in January of 1979. In his lifetime, he has been blessed with the opportunity to live in various locations. Due to this, he has gained both experience and charisma for not only the poverty stricken but also the prosperous. In short, he has been privileged to witness both sides of the track. In his brief journey and although he now supports optimism, he has not always made the best decisions. Immature and self-proclaimed âsystematicalâ decisions led him into the arms of the prison system in the late nineties. His incarceration marked the beginning of his awakening and put him on the track towards the acceptance of evolution. Since his childhood, he has seen music as an expression of life. Early influences of jazz, soul, funk, rhythm and blues, and gospel have given him an ear for melodies and the passion of the art. A true hip-hop head, he has poetically put words of life together in the name of self-expression for some time now. Influences, such as; Stevie Wonder, India Arie, Badu, Dâangelo, Michael Jackson, Jill Scott, Rachelle Ferrell, a tribe called quest, KRS-one, Public Enemy, the Roots, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Dead Prez, Nas, dilated peoples, digatable planets, K-os, and many other greats as well as freedom fighters like the Black Panther Party, Black Liberation Army, Mandela, Robert Nesta Marley, Malcolm, Shakur, and numerous revolutionist, have given him the root and foundation of the mission in his art; a mission that entails not only freeing his peoplesâ minds from systematic thought but also living unselfishly for the empowerment and uplifting of them. He has decided to use his skill in hip-hop and itâs podium as one of the tools in reaching out to the whole of mankind. His quest is not driven by financial gain, but by the belief that one day there will be mental freedom and harmonious unification amongst the people. âFree Ya Mindâ is the first album in a series of independent projects to be released. To listen to his work, is to tap into the emotional passion and empathetic nature of our peoplesâ struggle to achieve true freedom.
