Details:
Uniting elements of power pop, straight-ahead rock and roll, and a whisper of country, The Brokedown have created a sound all their own. The band released its debut EP, The Dutchman's Gold, on May 24, 2005, to several rave reviews (see attached Praise page); Gold was recorded and mixed in various studios, apartments, and homes throughout the Los Angeles basin and was co-produced by the band and Anthony Caruso.

The Brokedown began in the midst of a very hot Los Angeles summer, after singer/songwriter Ross Flournoy set out on I-10 from Austin, TX, where he had spent two years working on pitch-perfect three minute pop songs - potent sonic bursts of longing, confusion, regret and good, old-fashioned lechery; one of these songs was even recorded and released by a major-label band as a single. Upon arriving in Los Angeles in 2004, Flournoy had the good fortune of meeting up with guitarist/pedal steel player Dan Iead and drummer Rob McCorkindale, both of whom had recently left other projects. Thus The Brokedown was born.

The Brokedown has emerged as a collective of sorts, with Flournoy, Iead, drummer Rob McCorkindale, and keys player Will Canzoneri forming the core, augmented by a somewhat rotating lineup of excellent players, including the hirsute Rob Barbato (also of L.A. band Darker My Love) on Acetone organ and analog synth.

The Brokedown has been playing to packed houses across the greater L.A. area - from Spaceland to the Viper Room to The Troubadour - sharing the stage with such artists as Evan Dando, Lee Ving of Fear, the Gourds, and Augustana. They've also been winning many new fans along the way, including power-pop maestro Jason Falkner (ex-Jellyfish, Air, Travis, Beck), who recently invited the band to open for him at Spaceland. The Brokedown has also enjoyed considerable airplay on Los Angeles' Indie 103.1 FM and LittleRadio.com, where Anton Newcombe, lead singer of Brian Jonestown Massacre, has taken to playing them on his weekly show.

The Brokedown recently wrapped a small tour of the East Coast in February 2005, playing to capacity crowds at New York's Luna Lounge and Boston's Middle East; they look forward to touring across the U.S. this fall in support of The Dutchman's Gold.
