"I can't get that song out of my head." That's all that seems to be heard about these Chicago pop-rock sensations. In the same genre as Train, Vertical Horizon, Matchbox 20 or Collective Soul.
16 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Modern Rock, ROCK: Roots Rock
Details:
After the release of their 2001 self-titled debut album, Release wrote and recorded 2 albums worth of material. Splitting the songs up into a ârockâ album and a âsmoothâ album, they released both simultaneously in 2007. Deconstructing the Myth (or the ârockâ album) is a collection of the best up-tempo pop-rock and rock songs this band has to offer.
Band bio:
Release is a 5 piece band from Chicago that specializes in creating emotionally charged pop-rock songs. They formed the band in early 2001 with the specific goal of modernizing pop-rock music for the 21st century.
Honest and emotionally exposed, Release's moving vocal melodies and left-of-center harmonies are simply connecting with everyone who hears their music. Top-notch production, danceable drum loops and emotional guitars have helped them create a sound that is as universal as it is modern. Their simple song arrangements and strong vocal hooks create a sound that everyone can relate to, and more importantly; sing along with. Imagine equal parts songwriting, vocal hooks, musicianship and production and you're starting to get the picture.
Talented, emotional and refreshingly devoid of attitude, Release is out to prove that pop-rock music doesn't need to be bratty to be cool.
Press Quotes
âThe hooks really jumped up and knocked me out!â
-Richard Milne WXRT Radio Chicago
âPrepare yourself for some nice harmonies! Good arrangements with nice hooks and good variation with both acoustic and electric guitars. Out of the 12 tracks on the album every one has something to offer.â
-Midwestern Skies Music Magazine
âThey have their own particular stamp, characterized by the great production & the fact that their music sounds very tight & well rehearsed. "The Fall" (is) a real step above both performance & songwriting passion.â
-hEARd Music Magazine
âAs heavily laden with pop hooks as a gas station flystrip is with flies in August, Release presents you with slickly-produced, wildfire catchy, easily hummable pop. Given their playing talents, their hopes of filling a stadium could easily bear fruit by the bushel."
-Jenn Sikes Splendid Music E-Zine
âModern Rock doesn't get any better than this!â
-Peace Work Music
I think Release is the sort of proof that pop will never die as the debut album from these Americans is a sort of glorification of the indiepop that made bands like Fountains Of Wayne immortal. The vocals from singer Jaysun McBain might be very American (at times much like John Cougar Mellencamp) there is at the same time a sort of British undertone, you know the sort of things like Teenage Fan Club or The Bluetones were famous for. The press-release says Release is out to prove that pop-rock music doesn't need to be bratty to be cool and that's true as it is all clear that they believe more in popharmonies then stardom and that graces them as Release has made such a honest record that it can make you cry. Not that it is a collection of tearjerkers, but the pop-factor is so high here that you'd wish more bands would make records like this. Extra points go to the use of the keyboards that might be at the background but they definitely give the music more flavour. Something for the rock-pop kids among you!
-Didier Becu The Original Sin Music Magazine
âFrom the heels of Hootie and the Blowfish and hailing only a few miles away comes Release, which is an enjoyable band whom most likely thrives in college campuses. Their self-titled album is very diverse, experimenting in all sorts of tempos and dynamics. Reminiscent of The Connells; if only they had strayed from the use of electronic-enhanced voices, this album would be selling as quickly and right next to Matchbox 20's.â
