14 MP3 Songs
COUNTRY: Bluegrass, FOLK: Traditional Folk
Details:
The Grayson and Carrol County area of Virginia is noted world-wide for the fine old-time and bluegrass music which stems from there. The music has been passed down through many generations by many fine artists. This "passing on" of the music has kept mountain music alive.
Stevie Barr, age 11 on this instrumental, and now 30, was born in Grayson Co. and plays bluegrass banjo. He learned to play when he was four and truly enjoys music as you will hear from this project. Stevie learned to play the banjo from many good pickers of the area. These include Rodney Jennings, Wayne Frost, Beverly Davis and Charles Hawks.
Stevie was born into a musical family so it's no wonder he takes a great interest in music. In Stevie's years of playing, he has traveled extensively with his music. He has performed at the University of Chicago/University of North Carolina/Radford University/50th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway/El Paso, Texas and Florence, Italy. At the age of ten, he played for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
His father, Tom Barr, plays a big part in his music. Tom made his banjo and also plays the bass on this project.
Joining Stevie on this project are some of the best musicians around: Jimmy Edmonds, one of the finest fiddlers to come from this area, Danny Boyd, a fine guitar picker and Ronald Inscore, one of the best on mandolin. Stevie now teaches mountain instruments to children of all ages at the Barr's Fiddle Shop in Galax, VA. He is a member of the band "No Speed Limit" sweeping the country and the world at large with fine mountain songs. The group recently returned from a tour of Scotland and Ireland. The song "Turkey in the Straw" has recently been selected to be played on the BBC for a series under production.
This project is a real breath of fresh air, an original pickin' instrumental. If we could only bottle the energy on this recording! Honestly, the wealth of songs(14) can be played over and over again, bringing the listener into a quite memorable and enjoyable experience.
Enjoy this treasure from epecho music!
