John Prine meets Leonard Cohen lyrics. A smooth, evocative voice. And catchy melodies that you'll be humming for days.
6 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Modern Folk, POP: Piano
Details:
Old songs, new songs: all the favorites on one EP, filled with new harmonies and instrumentation.
Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, Heather first got involved in music when her family bought a $125 piano at an auction down the street. She began taking lessons and playing Mozart and Chopin. Heather was raised on a diverse diet of church music, jazz, Talking Heads, Carol King, and whatever was on WXRT. While most of her contemporaries were drooling over Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears, Heather was listening to classical, Celtic, blues, punk, and folk.
At thirteen she started writing, and by fifteen she was playing solo gigs throughout Chicagoland. She has written songs about places such as Memphis's Beale Street, which she played in a Memphis tribute at Chicago's Old Town School of Folk Music. Her songs are as appealing to her twenty-something peers as to an older crowd; her wisdom speaks beyond her years. At nineteen, Heather has over 100 songs, and she just keeps writing. She writes catchy songs, sad songs, love songs, political songs; songs about living in the present, moving on, and finding hope in a wearisome world.
Her voice changes from soft and smooth as a lounge singer to unexpectedly powerful. Heather's voice has been compared to Ani DiFranco, Sarah McLachlan, Fiona Apple, and Natalie Merchant, and her songwriting has been likened to Leonard Cohen and John Prine.
Now living in Chicago, Heather is making a name for herself throughout the folk/rock scene. From Chicago's Uncommon Ground and Old Town School to the Two Way Street Coffee House, this young performer is astonishing people with her songwriting and voice. Currently she is scheduled to be interviewed on Tom May's radio program, River City Folk.
