Details:
David Rose is the creative force behind Stellar Ash. This multi-talented musician was born in the village of Eganville in the heart of the Ottawa Valley. David had a desire for composing and playing music beginning at a young age. He began playing the piano at age 3 and, in true valley style, soon picked up the fiddle to accompany his brother and sister while they step-danced. As an adolescent, Dave ignited his passion for guitar, a relationship which he has continually fostered and nurtured for the last 15 years. At the age of 17, Dave took a high school co-op placement in Ottawa at recording studio where he took the opportunity to record âStrandedâ (1994), his first full length album. Without a band, Dave recorded all of the instruments himself. The album reflected a personal connection to his music and showcased the 60âs guitar rock and 90âs grunge style arrangements that were the predominant musical influences at the time. At 18 Dave decided to expand his experiences and moved to Banff, Alberta. He took the next few years to find and follow a yet wider range of music, practise his guitar and delve into song writing with a religious fervour. Dave emerged from these years with a growing maturity and the motivation to learn more about the music industry. With this new perspective he enrolled in the Recorded Music Production program at Fanshawe College in London, ON. There he learned the ins and outs of audio engineering but, almost more importantly, he met a group of musicians who he greatly admired and who had a big influence on his future musical styling. He began jamming at nightly punk, funk and reggae shows with a variety of bands. He also did a variety of accompaniment for friends who were recording at the time. After completing his program at Fanshawe, Dave returned to the province of Alberta where he worked at a CD store, attended many concerts, flirted with the Goth scene, working with Lizz of Richter on several recordings, and began work on his second full length album âLayersâ, still on his own, playing everything himself. With his audio engineering education under his belt, Dave aimed at creating this nouveau rock album with cohesion and continuity. It was met with good reviews, focusing on the intricate guitar work that the album was centered on. In 2002, Dave returned to Ontario. He reunited with former school mates to play under the banner of Stellar Ash at a variety of shows in Toronto and around the GTA. While in Toronto, Dave also produced a full length album for Guelph natives, Delusional (Fear and Loathing in the Human Race â 2005). Dave has also recently married and started a family which has mellowed him and his music. With his latest release âGrowing into Everythingâ Daveâs production and engineering are becoming more skilled, his music is more relaxed, his song writing less jaded, more reflective but no less intelligent and ever mindful of keeping a critical eye on the world. This is a beautiful album that reflects Dave's move from the city to the country, leaving behind the ridiculous nature of mass humanity, returning to his roots.
