10 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Traditional Folk
Details:
Whatâs the Point is a Ceilidh Band based in Derbyshire, UK. This is the first of two albums put together to promote this extremely versatile band who can perform as well at Folk Clubs as they can at barn dances, private
parties and weddings. Their repertoire is varied and includes anything from fast jigs and reels to gentle waltzes and self-penned ballads. This first album concentrates on tunes for dancing, and provided they have bought an original copy, dance callers are welcome to use it as they wish. The number of bars and type of tune is included to aid selection.
The sister album (Follow Me), which is mainly vocal is also available on this site. See web.-site for contact details.

The tunes â a personal perspective from Garry Stacey.
The tunes are intended for people to dance to! Although that sounds obvious it should be noted that when we play folk clubs, pubs or concerts we intend people to bounce around and tap their feet, hence tunes and songs are played at a speed to suit the venue. We believe the music on this album is all traditional except where credited. All Sorts and its associated tune Fruit Salad, which are known by the band as Sweeties were written by Noel. We all love playing these so weâve named this album after one of them!
We have recorded a cross-section of tunes including jigs, reels, polkas, hornpipes and waltzes in both 32 and 48 bar formats to try and help our dance caller friends. In live sets we also play a range of dedicated tunes including some Playford, Cajun, and of course music for Barn Dancing. Maybe weâll include some on the next album.
This album was recorded at a live session in Derby, so what you hear is what you get live on the night! Thanks to Anne for the food that kept us going.
The band name âWhatâs the Point?â was chosen for a busking competition whilst on holiday at Mannix Point campsite in Caherciveen in Southern Ireland. The cover photograph was taken from the campsite.
You can contact âWhatâs the Point?â via our website (see above). We hope you enjoy our debut album.
Garry Stacey â March 2006.
