15 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Traditional Folk, WORLD: Celtic
Details:
BRANCHING OUT is Wild Notes' long awaited second offering.
Their eclectic blend of old and new has been described as 'St. Patrick at a Hoedown' or as one fan put it, "Wild Notes will change your OâDoulâs to Guinness!"
The Notes originally drifted together as a dance band playing at Contra and Waltz sessions throughout New England. These dance roots are displayed in their first CD entitled âSOWINGâ (also available at CD Baby). This time around the band has branched out into original songwriting and tune-smithing, which reflects their migration from dance hall to concert stage.
Wild Notes is Mickey Koth, who plays fiddle, viola, flute and whistle as well as contributing two sets of toe-tapping dance tunes (âPartly Sunny/Sine Nomine/Not So Simple Gifts/Peepers & Bullfrogsâ and âDevil with the Dill Pickle/A Nod To Phoebe/Rock the Bowâ); John Kalinowski (which in Gaelic is pronounced âCeili-nowski) blends the traditions of Anglo Concertina with the sounds of Celtic and French Accordion (yes, accordion - donât be afraid!) These two founding Notes have been playing together for over seven years. Kasha Breauâs musical elegance on harp and vocals breathe fresh life into ancient Celtic ballads (âBonny Portmore-Dream Angusâ and âFear A Vhataâ). She also provides solid piano rhythms to the dance tunes. Kashaâs pensive âWaltz for Andesâ brings the CD to a close. Peter Delaneyâs edgy energy is the spark of the band, driving, bouncing and lilting through each song with guitar and mandolin. His voice is charming as he weaves his way through two wonderful tales - âPiperâs Refrainâ and âThe Ballad of St. Anneâs Reelâ. (Peter loves a good story â Heâs Irish). Dan Hocott anchors and lifts the Wild Notes with double bass and percussion. His love for Americana is evident in the original tunes âLiberty City Ragâ and âDrink the Wine Slowlyâ where he plays piano. Dan also lets us into his quirky world of love and relationships captured in the songs âJust Let Me Knowâ and âThirty Years and Seven Daysâ.
Weâre confident you will enjoy the energy, textures, musicianship and variety captured in BRANCHING OUT by Wild Notes. It will draw you in and never let go. As one fan said âI canât stop listeningâ!
