ZONA TANGO / BRAZIL TANGO
Electro bossa & tango

Zona Tango is the electrotango project led by the Argentine composer and multinstrumentalist Pedro Menéndez (keyboards, bandoneon, guitar, flute, sax, trombone, voice and composition).

Year 2004 - after a long stay in Spain and France featuring music of his own and performing traditional tango on festivals and milongas- Pedro Menéndez, wellknown for an unique trayectory of restless quests on tango and Argentina folk music, came back to Buenos Aires feeling the need to experiment and go beyond the fusion of modern tango and electronic sounds adding elements of jazz, latin and afro-american rythms, creating music using a varied and not very conventional instrumentation. At that moment he joined bandoneonist Oscar Fasanelli and Maurice Lévar (electronics) and finally the first CD of âZona Tangoâ: âElectrónicoâ was born.

As a reflect of the inevitable change and evolution of the urban cosmopolitan music, and without leaving the first âElectronicoâ project by an intense live activity, on the beginning of May 2006 Zona Tango released his second discographic work introducing to the world the first revolutionare mixture between electrotango and bossa nova: âBrazilTangoâ, featuring 9 original compositions of Pedro Menéndez and arrangements of the famous pieces âAdiós Nonino (Astor Piazzolla) and âCorcovadoâ (A.C.Jobim).

The current line-up of Zona Tango includes: Pedro Menéndez (keyboards, bandoneon, guitar, winds, voice and composition), Fito Vega (bass, electric double bass and sequences) and Gerardo Stubrin (drums and percussion).

PEDRO MENENDEZ BIO:

PEDRO MENÉNDEZ was born in Buenos Aires in 1957.
He is a prolific composer, more than 300 pieces for the most varied ensembles.

His composition style was mainly influenced by the rythms of his country folk music - tango, chacarera, zamba, and candombes- jazz, Brazilian rythms such as bossa nova or capoeira and contemporary classical expressions, which can be appreciate throughout his vast discography.
The infinite creativity and innovation of his compositions and the own personal and unique style make him to be recognized as a vanguardist.

He is also a talented multinstrumentalist. The audiences get dazzled when Pedro naturally changes from the piano to the flute, guitar, soprano sax or bandoneón, performing virtuoso on improvisations and with subtlety selecting notes upon developed armonies.

He has been dedicated to the music since he was 7 years old. He studied with professors as the worldwide known Oscar Aleman ( Josephine Baker's jazz guitarist), Arturo Schneider (Astor Piazzolla´s flutist) and the contemporary classical guitarist Miguel Angel Girollet, among others. He also attended the composition career at the UCA (Universidad Católica Argentina).

He has recorded 11 discographic works with compositions of his own and the participation of distinguished musicians as Osvaldo Fattoruso on drums (from the latin jazz Band âOpaâ), Rodolfo Mederos, Marcelo Nissinman on bandoneon, percussionist Rubén Rada, musicians from the Colón Theatre orchestra, among others.

Troughout his career he has played with many wellknown musicians of the local scene, as Luis Salinas, Agustín Pereyra Lucena, Guillermo Reuter (2004 SGAE Award), Danil âPipiâ Piazzolla, Lito Nebbia, etc.

He has also composed incidental music for television, theatre and cinema (Argentina and the Munich School of Cinema).
He has a long trajectory in jazz festivals in his country, including the last âBuenos Aires Jazz and other musicsâ organized by the Bs As Secretary of Culture.

He tournee in Norway and Germany with the âTrio de Janeiroâ (Agustín Pereyra Lucena - Pedro Menéndez - Guillermo Reuter) performing on radio, TV, live concerts, jazz festivals, universities and theatres. During 2001 he stayed in Spain and France, featuring his own compositions as well as playing traditional tango with the âRojo Tangoâ ensemble in festivals and âmilongasâ.

Since 1986 he is the Artistic Director of Contemporaneo Art Music, an Argentine record label dedicated to genres as tango, jazz, crossover, folk, world and contemporary classical music.
