FOLK: Gentle, JAZZ: Jazz Fusion
Details:
Until now, Beth Hirsch has been best known as the voice & co-writer behind French band Airâs internationally successful debut album, 'Moon Safari' with their classic hit, âAll I Needâ as well as âEverythingâ, the stunning duet with Senagalese singer Wasis Diop for the feature film, âThe Thomas Crowne Affairâ starring Pierce Brosnan.
"She is constantly compared to Beth Orton, Sarah McLachlan, and Joni Mitchell, and while this is all true, it isn't sufficient. This is why music reviews prove so difficult. With Beth, you really need to experience her, because it truly is an "experience". Stephanie Dickison/Pop Matters
Her first solo album, EARLY DAYS from K7 Records was called "a record to fall in love with" (Wax) bringing her folk singer-songwriter origins to the forefront.
"Hirsch has the kind of fluttering, sweet and sour voice that seems both alien and familiar." Fortune
Uncut - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Hirsch is a warm-voiced songwriter....One is ultimately sonically seduced and emotionally engaged with this persuasive artist. Promising, to say the least..."
Muzik (UK) Beth Hirsch's solo debut 'Early Days' found her accompanied by acoustic guitar. Her second LP, "Titles & Idols" is a far more ambitious affair as producers Black Dog and Custom Blue underpin her crystalline vocals with subtly pattering light beats, clever jazz inflections and humming electronic textures. It's a sharp move, particularly as their contributions are never allowed to swamp her glorious voice often compared to Joni Mitchell's. On this showing, the comparison is justified. If Hirsch's debut was her 'Blue', then 'Titles and Idols' is her 'Hissing of Summer Lawns.'
**** Nigel Williamson
Her latest solo effort, WHOLEHEARTED is now being considered her greatest work to date, thanks to the ethereal & soulful combination of Hirsch's vocals and songwriting combined with the richly harmonious production of Jez Colin & Phillippe Balatier and featuring the world-class talents of keyboardist Deron Johnson (Miles Davis, Seal), guitarist Jaime Kime (Jewel, Michelle Branch) and trumpetist Enzo Villaparedes (Earth, Wind & Fire) among many others.
