I miss playing,

We used to rehearse in Van Nuys, California, about a half- mile from the old Chevy factory. Damax; it was part of a seedy storage facility that had been handed down like some ancient beloved groupie, from one band to another for way too many years to count. And it looked it.

No matter the time or weather, someone was always in there behind those corrugated aluminum doors. Mostly jamming. Sometimes trying to complete their tunes. Some of them were very good. Some were great. A few other artists shared the space, Fear, Captain Beefheart, Wendy Melvoin & Lisa Coleman from Prince. Flea from the Chili Peppers. You never knew who might stop by. Good noisesâ¦.

Tragically, a fair number of the players who used to shine in our sound baffled shed are no longer with us. Keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin passed away while on tour with The Smashing Pumpkins. Bass player par excellent, David Coleman accidentally overdosed on sleeping pills. A few months later, drummer Sid Ferreira rolled his SUV.

Me? I lost my Mother & Father and contracted cancer, twice. The second time I lost the use of one of my legs and my right arm. I felt like I, too, had played my last note.
Yet eventually, I survived.
I went ahead and finished these songs; a tribute to my soulful, fallen friends. Everyone involved did a great job.
