Jamie DeFrates is one of the few singer/songwriters who has been successful without having to tour extensively. Jamie works from his high-tech audio studio in Jacksonville, Florida, where he has scored many projects for the Wilderness Society, PGA Tour, Sally Corporation, and the American Cancer Society to name a few. With the release of "Winterhawk", Jamie has recorded six albums of his intelligently conceived and melodic original music, which has reached listeners around the world.
In addition to his private CD projects, Jamie composed the musical score for the documentary "Iakovos, A Legacy", which was about the life of Archbishop Iakovos. It aired on the A&E Network and the project won an Emmy. One of Jamieâs most revered projects was the video for his song "Timber", which was created for the Wilderness Society. The Timber music video won two Silver Tellys, three Florida Crystal Reel awards, three Jacksonville Image awards, and in addition to all of that the Atlanta Songwriterâs Association voted him songwriter of the year.
"Winterhawk" is impeccably recorded with Jamieâs unwaveringly clear voice mixed up front. The CD also features Susan Brown on backup vocals and the lead vocal on her song "Come Back Baby". Other guest artists appear, including Andy King on upright bass, Chip Herrington on harmonica, Brian Homan on Dobro, and Gabe Valla on mandolin. Although all the tracks include a cadre of guest musicians, thankfully, the CD is not overproduced. Winterhawk is Jamieâs stellar return to his folk roots.
