Details:
Dan Hall is funny, poignant, unavoidably engaging and one of Michigan's finest treasures.ââPhil Doolittle, North American Folk Alliance
âI had Dan's maritime music on my radio show within 24 hours of my first listening. It's that rare combination of great music and history.ââMatt Watroba, producer/host of Folks Like Us, WDET Public Radio, Detroit.
The April â97 release of âItâs Quiet Where They Sleep," marked Danâs most powerful work up to that point. "This is a landmark recording sure to become a part of Great Lakes history."-Dell Vaughan, Michigan Magazine.
Through collaboration with shipwreck enthusiast, David O. Norris, these well-told stories with wonderfully crafted lyrics and timeless melodies are driven throughout the recording by Danâs powerful vocals. From the rollicking spirit of the chanty, âLake Seamenâs Union Menâ to the peaceful prodding of, âWhen The Bradley Was Torn And Then Gone,â this chronicling of life (and death) on the Lakes captures the warmth and the courage of those who have sailed them.
In addition to theme music for television, "Discovering Michigan Presents The Northern Experience," several jingles and original music for the feature film, "The Lost Treasure of Sawtooth Island" starring Ernest Borgnine, Dan co-wrote the soundtrack for several Great Lakes documentaries: Expedition '94 to the Edmund Fitzgerald, Deep Quest, Inc; The Gales of 1913, WNEM TV5; Final Run, and Cutter Rescue, Air Worthy Productions.
Dan has been performing since the age of 10, pursuing traditional and non-traditional outlets for his surging creativity and unstoppable enthusiasm. He is able to take common themes and then find unique ways to blend them into uncommonly solid musical combinations.
His impish sense of humor, with a stand-up comicâs sense of timing and an impersonatorâs facial flexibility, helps him connect with his diverse audiences. Dan turns up laughter when least expected, and taps into the unrestrained joy that great song writing can inspire.
As a composer, singer, guitarist, maritime history presenter and humorist, Dan has delighted multi-age audiences around the country for more than 20 years. His historically accurate songs about the triumphs and tragedies of life aboard Great Lakes freighters are fast becoming a part of Michigan's rich maritime history.
