"There's a lot of new Mercy Choir material coming out in 2007. All of which I should have been working on instead of making this album. Late January, I heard about the RPM Challenge, which is to write and record an album's worth of material in 28 days. I couldn't pass up the chance to work in this rapid-fire manner. Seemed like a good idea. So I set up some microphones in the living room and went to work. The house is very cold this time of year. Too cold to play the guitar. The fingers rebel. So, not as much guitar here as one might expect. It's a quick album. Sounds very quick to me. Like the month of February. Like a small cup of coffee. Like the life of a B-celebrity."

P. Belbusti - Mercy Choir

Paul Belbusti has a whole choir of noise living inside his head.

The Mercy Choir, which could be described as âNeil Young meets Animal Collective,â have two full-length albums released by Belbustiâs fledgling label, Dead Language Records. On record, the Mercy Choir is usually Belbusti alone, handling all the instruments and
recording.

The Mercy Choirâs live show is truly unpredictable and can range from Belbusti alone, solo with guitars and gadgets, to a revolving door of New Haven area musicians accompanying him on a variety of conventional and unconventional instruments.

Gentle ballads and dissonant noise. Guitars, synthesizers, harmonicas, megaphones, pianos, pots and pans. Front porch Americana and avant-garde noise. The Mercy Choir is Paul Belbustiâs vision realized on record and on stage.

They Want to Love You is the new album by the Mercy Choir and was written and recorded by Belbusti in February 2007 and has been received warmly by the local press. Brian LaRue of the New Haven Advocate called it, âexperimental post-folk...[with] solid and memorable melodies around tight, efficient song structures.â
