itâs an electric world filled with taco bells and mcdonalds and chickenpox. the parking lots light up in a holy flourescent glow. a lurching dip and the air sucks backwards, wheels hit ground as the plastic window rattles and screams and threatens to tear open. his hand presses hard against the frightened pane. to calm it? or to hope that it shatters and cuts his face and throat? it stops itâs violent spasm. as he drops his hand down his eye catches sight of the ridiculously tacky verizon logo across from the runway.

he thinks of her and laughs. they are the same. heâs not sure where she is, why he couldnât invite her along with him on this trip. it hasnât been long now, a few weeks since they met but he already doesnât feel comfortable in the world without her.

âhorrid logoâ he mouths silently.

but whatâs the difference between a logo and a label? why does this ultra sterile airplane smell so toxic? they could be pumping junk in through the ventilation to keep everyone tired and complacent.

no. probably not because complacent is about the last emotion heâs experiencing. disgusted and destructive and a little bit depressed. The Dâs. better than the Fâs. failed. flawed. foolish. well, he was a bit fidgety.

the plane finishes taxing and the seat belt light dings itself off. of course, all of the horribly self-importants immediately stand. so now, most of the people on the plane are standing still, half hunched over in the ailse. they will continue to stand. now, he wonders, if they were really as important as they all think they are, wouldnât they treat themselves better? rushing off to herd yourselves like cattle at the ding of a bell is not the least bit self-respecting.

he sits. he reaches inside his blue dickies bag and pulls out his organic chewing gum. he can wait. he really is important enough that everywhere he needs to be and everything he needs to do will wait for him. not cattle.

he pulls his phone out of his pocket and turns it on. he checks his messages. none. too bad. he was hoping she would have called. just to say hi.
