Bagpipes, Scottish smallpipes, low whistles, and great accompaniment on acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, violin, and percussion are complemented by highland bagpipe solos to round out this collection of favorite tracks.
18 MP3 Songs
WORLD: Celtic, FOLK: Traditional Folk
Details:
Ann Grayâs recordings feature the Great Highland Bagpipe, Scottish smallpipes and low whistles, and the majority of her music is accompanied by other instruments including acoustic guitar, bass guitar, fiddle, and percussion. While much of her music is original, she also embraces more Scottish music in the form of marches, strathspeys, and reels. She is also a gifted player of piobaireachd â the classical bagpipe music of the Great Highland Bagpipe â and has won numerous international awards in solo piping competitions.
Ann grew up and learned how to play the bagpipes in Nova Scotia. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Celtic Studies from St. Francis Xavier University, as well as a Law degree from the University of Calgary.
The highland bagpipes that Ann plays on âTales of Magpies & Ravensâ are a set of 1995 Naills (drones and chanter). She also plays Scottish Smallpipes in the key of D made by Hamish Moore, mouth-blown Smallpipes in the key of A made by John Walsh ("A-2000"), and Scottish Smallpipes in the key of A made by Ray Sloan. Ann plays Overton whistles in the key of A and G, and a Chieftan Whistle in the key of E.
Ann has two prior solo recordings: âA Twist in the Taleâ (Lismor) and âShouting at Magpiesâ (Lochshore), three recordings with the Calgary-based Celtic band Seanachie (Independent) one recording with both Seanachie and Portland-based Raven, called âFive Days in Aprilâ (also available through CD Baby), and two collections of bagpipe music to her credit. Her 2nd volume of music won Piper & Drummer onlineâs âNew Music Book of the Yearâ award for 2004.
