Uber-melodic rootsy Americana meets lo-fi rock with a 60's Brit Pop sensibility. Here's what some have said : "...an absolutely BRILLIANT band..." -BBC Radio "...timeless..." -Kerrang. Radio "...gorgeous melodies...a hint of Wilco and The Jayhawks."
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Americana, POP: Beatles-pop
Details:
"...an absolutely brilliant band..." BBC Radio
"...the best alt.country this side of Wilco and the Jayhawks..." iTunes
"...really beautiful songs..." John Stirrat, Wilco
Additional Moog have been picking up some great reviews with comparisons to Wilco, Gram Parsons and the Jayhawks.
At the same time they combine their sound with a 60s pop song sensibility evoking Ray Davies, Paul Simon and mid-era Beatles. It's handy they can also rock out a la Neil and Crazy Horse.
Additional Moog is a geographically challenged band. With members based all over the UK they use Birmingham as their rehearsal base but relocate to the Shropshire/Wales border to record. There's a heck of a lot of mileage that goes into these tunes !
The band formed out of what was originally a studio project. James recorded solo on an 8 track with and released the songs on the internet, racking up 30 thousand downloads on mp3.com in just eighteen months.
Along the way there was also the semi-legendary tale of the aborted album with Pavement's Bob Nastanovich.
The project didn't become a fully realised live band until 2004 when James hooked up with workmate and Abba fan Ian on drums and guitarist Alex, who was the only person to answer a musicians-wanted advert in the library that mentioned Beck and Silver Jews.
Alex soon switched to bass in true McCartney style and the band made their live debut supporting K.T. Tunstall.
It wasn't long before the band attracted interest from the U.S. and opted to release their first single "Holy Jukebox" on U.S. label Lost Cat Records. The label also released "Lost Engines" - a compilation of the mp3.com demos.
The line-up was soon augmented by Mark, a guitarist with a striking resemblance to Danny DeVito.
In September 2006, Additional Moog made their first trip to the States, playing a series of successful shows around Austin, Texas including a live afternoon session for KUT Radio.
Debut album "Thirty Three And A Third" is out April 2007 on Fight This Generation! Records
