LATIN: Salsa, LATIN: Bolero
Details:
Best mix of Latin rhythms !
BOHEMIO LATINO was founded by PORFIRIO OTERO in Kiev-95, when he was studying there. By that time Porfirio had already written many songs. His first entire album,HARMONIA TROPICAL;was published in 97 in Finland.
The principal idea of Porfirio´ s songs is to combine traditional rhythms from his own country Nicaragua and Latin America with classic European music. This album is a delicious mix of Latin rhythms:cumbia, son, bolero, rumba, mambo, Nigaraguan mazurka and two traditional Mexican mariachi folksongs âFlor sin retonoâ and âGavilan Pollerâ with original Mexican instruments: vihuela and gitarron.
CD-EL TROPICO
Presents widely the Latin rhythms of
cumbia,
son
bolero,
rumba,
mazurka
and mariachi-music.
The leader of the band, Porfirio Otero, has written a collection of songs that goes together well with
for instance the evergreen â Historia de un amorâ.
Among the musicians in the band we find the Cuban bassist Carlos D´ l Puerto, who co-founded
the legendary group Irakere. After 28 years with the Grammy award-winning Irakere,D l Puerto decided to put the technique of electric bass playing and Cuban music into textbooks and conservatory courses.
At the beginning of the new millennium he found a new residence for himself in town of Turku, the former centre and capital of Finland. From Turku, this bass player has lectured at the most prestigious music colleges, conservatories, bass clinics and music festivals all over the world, as well as focusing on the local and national institutions of musical learning, orchestras and concert halls in Finland.
RHYTHM- THE VOICE OF LATIN MUSIC
Anthony Johnson, the British arranger of the CD, always starts his work from the rhythm. He thinks that the rhythm is the voice of latin music. Improvising is important but not so common. It plays a big role in jazz, where improvising is very important.
The centre of the music is in melody and harmony while the rhythm takes care of itself.
Anthony Johnson is not surprised at all of the great popularity of Latin music in Finland. The Latin fever in Finland today combines both those Latin music fans from the 60 s and the ones who found this kind of music via Buena Vista Social Club.
Bohemio Latino plays Latin rhythms in sweet and gentle or hot and spicy way.
CARLOS D´ l PUERTO
Bassist CARLOS D´ l PUERTO is considered by many to be the utmost authority on the role of a bass in Afro Cuban music.
As a young man, he secured his place in music history as a founding member of the legendary group IRAKERE, along with Chuco Valdes, Paquito D´ Rivera and other luminaries.
IRAKERE carned in a Grammy in 1979 for best Latin Recording, and was nominated again in 1980.
During the last decade, he has been awarded two of Cubaâs highest honours: The Order for National Culture for his contributions to the arts, and the Cuban Rebublic´ s pedagogical merit for his contributions to the development of education.
Today, in addition to performing and appearing on more than 60 recordings, he is working as an author, a dedicated educator and a rich fountain of knowledge.
In this new album EL TROPICO, Carlos D´ l Puerto cordially shakes hands with musicians living in Finland who love Latin Music.
TOMÀS JIMENO

TOMÀS JIMENO´ s pedagogical career started in -63 in Cuba, and later he taught and played in several countries in Europe. As a musician he first visited Finland -87,when Afrocuba de Matanza was performing in Kaustinen and Pori Jazz.
