Details:
Dale was born in Lockport, New York, and spent his tender years on a dairy farm in nearby Springville. His family later moved to Buffalo NY, where Dale became involved with the Salvation Armyâs musical programs at the age of 11, continuing until the age of 21. During these years, Dale took full advantage of the musical education the Salvation Army offered, including participation with the brass band. He learned musical theory and guitar, and began writing original compositions, developing his vocal skills while traveling with a Christian rock band.
Dale was most influenced by solo artists, preferring the story lines of folk and country artists. His compositions follow the style of John Denver, Jim Croce and Ann Murray.
For a time, Daleâs musical interests took a back seat to his family life. He took a day job as a union printer, staying close to his three children by volunteering as a boy scout leader and baseball coach. He never stopped composing, however, refining his musical talents by performing at open stages throughout Western New York, and hosting some of his own, including Toast & Jam for the Lewiston Council on the Arts. Dale has performed at the Niagara Wine Festival, Taste of Lewiston, Canal Fest, Lewiston Outdoor Fine Arts Festival, and Taste of Lockport.
Dale was inspired by the audienceâs reaction to his first original song, âSound Like the Rain,â and soon released his debut cd entitled âJust Me and the Dog.â
As a solo artist or as lead singer with Ruby Sunsett, Dale is a local favorite and has performed for numerous private parties, organizations, benefits, and public establishments. Dale has also performed vocals on other artistâs cdâs.
Dale is co-host of the Iney Wallens Radio Show, and has his own show broadcast every Thursday at 4 PM on WJJL 1440 AM.
The second cd continues to expand on his life experiences with songs like âShe Wouldnât Believe,â âThey Were Flowers,â and âRuby Sunset.â
A Review of Just Me and the Dog...
âDale Campbell has the right ingredients as a solo singer-songwriter: soft, pleasing voice, thoughtful lyrics, graceful guitar. The nine songs on this cd are introspective without being heavy, dealing with matters of the heart and friendship. Campbell appears to take his inspiration from life, as his songs are snippets of daily experiences often retold with his obvious sense of humor and a touch of spirituality.
Campbellâs frequent use of names (Walking with Bobby Jo, Lindsayâs Song) give his already personal music an even nicer touch. Song arrangements are minimal, keeping it all nice and simple.
The songs flow quite nicely, moving from the sweetness of Sounds Like the Rain and My Inspiration into the lighthearted, country-tinged Just Me and the Dog. That song (and its hilarious tale of performing at a open mic) and the slightly silly but warmhearted Bundled Up are two numbers where Campbellâs funny bone really sticks out.â
