The Hollow Trees are a âFolk Music for Familiesâ group from Los Angeles who play acoustic music for the whole family.
Formed in 2004, they are led by Greg McIlvaine (aka Gregory Hollow Tree) on guitar and vocals and Laura Steenberge (aka Laura Hollow Tree) on upright bass and vocals.
Inspired by bluegrass, country, and folk music from days gone by, The Hollow Trees perform versions of many well known and obscure old classics. You'll hear animal songs like âRaccoon and Possum,â sea songs like âJack was Every inch a Sailor,â train songs like âThe Little Engine that Could,â and cowboy songs like âLavender Cowboy.â They also play originals such as Gregâs âNelsonâ and âForest Melodyâ which help explain some of The Hollow Treesâ mythology, as well as the instant classic âEverybody has Handsâ written by Laura.
Joining Greg and Laura on their 17 song CD are Rick Lyman on banjo, Dave Green on snare drum, and a whole bunch of friends and relatives on backing vocals and animal sounds.
