Creative jazz duo cd with sultry vocals and simmering guitar from Virginia's Shenandoah valley.
16 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Jazz Vocals, EASY LISTENING: Cabaret
Details:
This talented, engaging duo is steeped in jazz tradition, but ever moving forward with imaginative arrangements and an eclectic tune selection on their second collaborative effort (following the 2004 release of "You must believe in spring"). Guest performances by Danny Knicely on mandolin and Bobby Read on saxophones.
Imagine blending the sounds of Peggy Lee, Wes Montgomery, Julie London, Joe Pass, Stacey Kent, Charlie Christian, Tuck & Patti, Norah Jones, and Django Reinhardt. Now, mix it up, and then add a dash of down & dirty here and there, a little international flavor - - and always something unexpected. That's an introduction to the duo sound of Jennifer Kirkland and Bert Carlson - - enjoy!
Guitarist Bert Carlson has performed and recorded professionally for over 30 years throughout the United States, and has toured in Japan. A full-time instrumentalist, his experiences include concerts, recordings, festivals, commercial work, and private teaching. Bertâs extensive performing and band leading experience encompass jazz, blues, rock and roll, and bluegrass, all of which inform his dynamic playing style and his creative jazz arrangements for the duo.
Jennifer Kirkland has performed, directed, and taught music in a variety of styles during the last 25 years throughout the Southeastern United States. Her performance styles include jazz, musical theater and other American popular music, and classical.
Jennifer and Bert have performed together since 2003 and are equally at home on the concert stage, at festivals, or in nightclubs. Recent performance venues include Court Square Theater, Greenbrier Valley Theatre, The Greenbrier Resort, Blackfriars Playhouse, Washington and Lee University, Boxerwood Gardens, Wintergreen Resort, and regular club events throughout the Shenandoah Valley and central Virginia.
