Mathieu DâAstous grew up in Moncton, N.B. Like most Francophones living in « Acadie » he had the opportunity to learn two languages, and thus to compose and sing in both English and in French..
At the age of 18 Mathieu joined Zéro ° Celsius, a bilingual « organic rock » quintet. He played bass, sang and composed numerous songs for the group. Zero performed throughout Canada and Europe, including the 1994 edition of Slovakiaâs Rock Pop Bratislava music festival, the 1996 edition of the Printemps de Bourges festival in France as well as the Rock sans Frontière festival in Montreal and Quebec City. Mathieu also contributed to various recordings, including Pet-Kout-Koy-Ek : Songs for a River (Indie, 1996) , and Contes du Coude/Tales from the Bend (Groundswell/Warner Canada, 1995).
With an urge to travel and to explore the sounds of world music, Mathieu played his last show with Zéro ° Celsius in December 1996. Since then, he has release several demos and played a variety of shows in New-Brunswick, Québec and abroad, including les Francofolies de Montréal (2003) and the Festival International de la Louisianne (Lafayette, 2003).
Influenced by the rhythms of the world, Mathieuâs music takes us on a journey to far away places. His storytelling lyrics are fueled by cultural collisions, natureâs beautiful chaos, and the mysteries of travel.
His first studio album entitled Ada was launched in July 2002. Over twenty musicians from the Moncton area contributed to the project. These include, Tim Isaac (Isaac and Blewett), Chris mersereau (Sol, El Fuego), Jac Gautreau (ECMA Producer & Les Méchants Maquereaux) and Les Paiens.
In 2006 Mathieu released his new CD call "Les Méandres" and present his music across Canada.
