Pat Pepin is proud to announce the release of her second recording, âBlue Stories.â The central Maine-based singer and saxophonist has been on the music scene for 20 years and has paid her dues, both personally and artistically. This independent release has 13 tracks -- five written by Pepin -- featuring her passionate and powerful vocal style and soulful saxophone.
âI sing in many different styles, but always from a womanâs perspective,â Pepin said. âBut maybe because Iâve lived through hard times in my own life, itâs the blues that really speaks to me.â
âBlue Storiesâ is certainly about the blues, from the heart-felt âSomething âBout Travelingâ and âIâd Rather Go Blind.â But the singerâs natural exuberance and sparkling wit shine through as well, especially in the sassily clever âFat Baxterâ and âYear of the Blues,â both written by Pepin.
Pepinâs first release, 2002âs âIâm Ready,â was well received by industry critics and her many fans. The CD receives airplay on local and national radio stations, and was featured on the nationally released CD âUnderground Highway â Blues Jam Volume 2,â produced by Southern Records Group.
Critics are hailing Pepinâs second CD for reflecting her growth as an artist. âMature, sassy, insightful, funny, emotional, mellow â just some of what this disc has,â said Mike Halmo of the Blues Highway (WBOR 91.1 FM), when he heard âBlue Stories.â Mark E. Waterbury of Music Morsels comments that Pepinâs âhonest lyrics and her uniquely powerful voice give blues fans a real treat.â
