If NASA and the Beatles had a love child, it would be Real Lunch. After plucking the finest musical ideas out of the last five decades, the group embodies a keen knowledge of the past within a very exciting future. The result is a fluid, often visceral take of modern pop music, and audiences everywhere are catching on. Their insistent pulse has been compared to the likes of Arcade Fire, Talking Heads, and The Killers.

Meeting at a Beach Boys convention, Max Perenchio and Ryan Brady soon sparked up a friendship from their mutual appreciation of 60s baroque pop as well as a desire to make new and innovative music. Soon, bass phantom Jake Serek and drum carnivore Brian Selke completed the band as four friends with the intent of creating music that is aware of itself as pop art, while maintaining an accessibility to keep all types of audiences engaged and happy.

In early 2007, the band released its debut EP, Ghosts & Numbers, a collection of five songs almost too vibrant to be fully grasped on first listen. Instantly exploding with a supreme texture and mechanic precision, the urgent âTelevision Musicâ is a tasteful meditation on technology and isolation. The centerpiece âSirensâ is elegant and epic in scope, a perfect backdrop to a tongue-in-cheek tale of cosmic (or perhaps comic) wisdom. Songs like âShe Canât Danceâ and âFull Speedâ give a smiling, toe-tapping nod to the ever blessed new wave influences, while opener âOver the Bridgewayâ surges with youth and electricity-induced surrealism.

All of this of course solidifies Real Lunch as a band of immense talent and capability, with the refreshing audacity of not taking themselves too seriously. Awash in an overly stimulated culture that worships artists who spin messages saturated with sentimentality, the boys exploit their self depreciating humor to poke fun at the imperfections inherent in the world and, more importantly, in themselves.
