Ready the Jet live and play in Los Angeles. They are a "power-trio" who play power-pop. Their songs are about the day-to-day heartbreaks and joys of living in their sprawling, confusing city. Their music sounds nothing like Los Angeles.

Hiding under sheets of distortion and heavy drumming are earnest melodies and hidden harmonies reminiscent of the mid-80's Minneapolis sound. A Ready the Jet song rarely lasts more than two minutes. Apparently, their ambition is to be as gratifying - and as fleeting - as a sonic sugarcube.

Back in the early 90's, drummer Jay Adelberg and guitarist Matt Brooks were in a Connecticut punk band named Mi6. Their 7" EP's made the top 10 lists of several reviewers at MRR...and eventually they toured down the East Coast with J. Church. Amicably, Mi6 called it quits in '95.

Two years ago, through a mutual friend, the two former band mates discovered that they were both living in L.A... for work. Jay was in the band The Golden Arms at the time, so he invited Matt out to their rehearsal pad for a few laughs and some rock.

Matt had been living in Venice, CA and continued to write songs on his 4-track (just one of those habits...the guy just can't stop writing music). The new songs started clicking along easily and loudly. Well, it wasn't long before Jay placed a musicians' classified want ad for a bassist. Said ad read something to the effect of..."our influences include Hüsker Dü, Mission of Burma and the like." Who they found within days of running the ad was rock-encyclopediast/bassist Jeremy Levy. He injected his own sense of pop ideology into the mix and Ready the Jet was in the air.

They still are... or at least high.

If you asked the band how many songs they have written in the past two years, they'd have to have a conference about it, because there are countless... and they probably wouldn't know the answer.
