Steve Stoll is a name well known to techno heads all over the globe. Harking from New York City this "blunted boy wonder" helped fuse the early minimal techno sound of the 90's with his pounding, dark, and deep releases on labels like NovaMute, Sm:)e, MusicMan, Djax, Probe, Synewave, etc... and of course his own Proper n.y.c. and 212 Productions. Steve has also remixed the likes of Gary Numan, Hardfloor, DJ Rush, as well as dozens of other electronic artists. Never one to turn down a good colab. he has worked together on projects with artists such as Patrick Codenys (Front 242), Damon Wild, Ken Ishii, and Pete Namlook. Having gained an early reputation for his aggressive and pounding live sets, this in your face style of minimal techno naturally crossed over into Steve's dj style. An artist who would always bring something new to every gig, and always curious to try new sounds out before a formal record release, Steve would often burn "dub-plates" at his local mastering house in mid-town Manhattan. These acetates would only last for very few plays and after that would never be heard again. "Dub and one shots" is the only chance to own some never before released jems from one of the originators of the style of music called techno. All tracks recorded in one Ableton Live take without overdubs as has always been Steve's chosen way of recording. This "in the moment" style of techno features some very personal tracks from the Properboy's archive and even some truly experimental minimalist moments such as "imnotarobot" which features no instruments other than a Nintendo Gameboy! N.Y.C. style indeed!!!
