I play, sing and record all of the instruments myself in my home digital recording studio. I have been playing the guitar for 25 years, the bass guitar for 5 years, and keyboards for 5 years. I sang in the church choir in England when I was a boy, then left when my voice (and a couple of other things) dropped! Though I record entirely digitally, I do not use computers in music. If I am not happy with a part of a song, I have to play it again--no cut and paste. I prefer this way of playing, as I feel it is more realistic and has a 'human', live feel. I only use microphones for my vocals, for everything else I plug straight into the digital 8-track recorder. After this, I set the sound levels, and send directly to the masterdisc recorder where I can do more changes such as treble, bass, fade-in, fade-out, compressing, peak-limiting and so on.
I spend a lot of time trying to write lyrics that are interesting, some with rather strange subject matter. I don't write love songs because I believe that subject has been done to death.
I also do all of the photography and artwork. I have been a full-time professional photographer for the past 20 years or so. I travelled the world for 5 years as a cruiseship photographer. Now I work and live in New York.
