The style reflects big-sounding rock acts from the UK - an overload of melodies, atmosphere and lush sonic soundscapes. Ambitious? You bet.
11 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Psychedelic, POP: British Pop
Details:
"You might say Jason Dunnâs new band sounds like his old band because itâs still his voice, his guitar, and some of his songs, but Iâd say The Luxury is a step up musically from the Halogens; this incarnation can blow the doors off the club, as well as do the various elegant takes on better-than-Coldplay anthemic pop, see the end of âRockets and Wrecking Balls.â There, and on âLet Go,â the recordâs opener, the change of lineup has produced a rock band with some Oasis in the big hummable choruses, long wah-wah outro solos, and oddly, some REM in the driving pop of âSeven Stories.â For good measure, there are nods to Revolver era Beatles in the weaving of strings and cool sounds into the CDâs sonic periphery on âMalcontent,â another track that blends the (excellent) singer at the piano with the big guitar sound in a way that's classic sounding without being derivative."
- The Noise, Mar 2007
"For sheer instrumentation and production brawn, this debut is way more polished than one might expect from an indie release. This is where Jason Dunn's musical ambitions were fleshed out by drummer Steve Foster, guitarist Daanen Krouth, bassist Justin Day and keyboardist Brooks Milgate. Using a smorgasbord of guitars, keyboards and studio software, The Luxury has created a whole, cohesive "album" of exceptional layered vocals, hook-laden melodic meanderings and swirling spirals of studio wizardry of an ilk usually left to the prog rockers and Berklee kids. This band has, in a word, prowess."
- The Noise, Feb 2007
"The Luxury likes to play with ambition - the music is ambitious in its sweeping, majestic grandiosity, a sound that echoes the grandest elements of U2, Coldplay and Stereophonics."
- Boston Herald, Jan 29 2007
"Really f***ing good"
