Written by Tod Pierce & CC Hemingway (formally Pierce²) with daughter Joelle Case in the immediate aftermath of the World Trade Center disaster, Ground Zero commemorates the day, pays homage to our heroes, our lost and fallen and their families; and it remembers our painâ¦

Influenced by The Eagles, Jackson Browne and the Beatles, Tod Pierce began writing music in the late sixties as a rebellious teenager in White Plains New York. Heâd characterized most of it as âMusic to Commit Suicide Byâ until March 2001, when his yearly vacation rampage in the Florida Keys became a turning point in his music and his life.

Upper Keys reigning music critic, entertainment columnist and freelance journalist, CC Hemingway, distant cousin to the famous author, had written only one prior song with a long time friend, Nashville singer/songwriter Timmy Probst when she met Tod.. Sheâd written poetry and been published since childhood, and although sheâd been asked to collaborate with a number of musicians whom sheâd worked closely with, she never felt the chemistry was right.

Todâs music took an upward turn with CCâs advent into his life, beginning with CCâs Song, which he had written for her while she was still in Florida. The duo began writing music together in April, 2001 but her input was primarily editorial until the Twin Towers disaster.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, CC was in the Florida Keys picking up documents she needed for their forthcoming marriage. Tod was caught in traffic heading into Manhattan when the Twin Towers nightmare began to unfold. From their different perspectives and her location half a world away, CC finally found words of her own that needed voice.

At the Pierce wedding, just 11 days later, Ground Zero, in its infancy, was performed for the first time publicly. They all agreed to form a label and record the song, which had practically written itself, as a memorial tribute , with proceeds going to the Twin Towers Orphan Fund for the long term benefit of all children orphaned by the disaster.

Unfortunately, shortly after theyâd gotten the discs back the Pierce alliance was on the rocks, affected as was everything by rampant PTSD and their proximity to the devastation. The project was shelved for more than two years while their own personal tragedy played out. The Pierce² reconciliation in August 2005 brought their Muse back to life and the partnership has never been stronger.

Tod and CC began writing music together again in September, 2005 and by November Tod had begun recording their latest collection, with a major focus on Anti-War songs. Several of the new songs have already been introduced in singer/songwriter showcases at New York Cityâs Café Iguana and at CBGBâs Singer/Songwriter Sessions in the Bowery, and will soon be available on CDBaby and in various retail and site locations. Early in 2006, CC stepped into the performance arena and made her debut at CBGBâs on April 11, 2006.

As the five year anniversary of Sept. 11 rolls around, it has become apparent that there are still lives to be saved. As the plight of the uniformed and volunteer Responders suffering from exposure to the toxic environment has begun to surface, we are working on assigning the copyright for their benefit, along with all net proceeds from future sales and licensing of the song. Weâre hoping to launch the song as an Anthem and to promote it to a position where it will provide a major source of revenue for the unmet needs of all 9/11 Response personnel and their families; truly heroes every one.
