Details:
For more than two thousand years, the Church marks time differently from its immediate culture. Advent-Christmas-Epiphany, Lent, Easter and Pentecost-Ordinary Time have been the means by which the Church has taught us to understand time. The Church Calendar helps us to see our lives through the lens of Godâs presence in history through the extraordinary and ordinary lives of people like you and me. One of the great mysteries of faith is how God works, through Godâs people and all in Godâs time.
This album would not have been possible if not for the encouragement of Max Miller and the financial support of the Memorial Endowment Committee. I cannot say enough about the people of Memorial United Methodist Church who have welcomed me and supported me since my arrival in June of 2006. The staff and congregation of Memorial is more than a good match, they have become my latest surprising light and gracious gift from God.
This album was inspired by a personal goal I set for myself in 2000 to write new material and/or collect existing music which matched the theme and content of my sermons and primary texts in the Revised Common Lectionary. I soon realized what a daunting task it was. My time at Memorial, however, has inspired me further toward my goal and it is noteworthy that eight of the songs on this album were written since Iâve been here. I am particularly grateful to Scott Johnson for being the Senior Pastor. Being the associate has allowed me the luxury of additional time and energy for writing. I trust that everyone will be as inspired by the listening as I was by the writing and recording.
