Details:
Allen Smith's style and repertoire are extremely eclectic, spanning four centuries and defying genre categories. His background includes popular and classical music, old-time country string band, choral and many other kinds of music.

He has played music since childhood, starting with harmonizing at his mother's knee in the 1950s. He had about a year and a half of piano lessons before taking up the French horn at the age of 12. At Penn State, he majored in music for two years and English literature for two years.

He began playing the guitar and banjo in high school, employing classical and popular techniques, and he resumed learning piano in Sept. 2005. He is a tenor.

He agrees with Ray Charles, that "They only two kind of music: good and bad."
