Details:
"From the first driving chords of the mainstream rock song, "Burn," through the epic rock anthem, "Pandora's Box," until the final strum of the acoustic ballad, "Holding On," Burning Sage's Purification leads you on an emotional and riveting roller-coaster ride.

This raw, all-female rock band has an open and airy, hard-hitting sound, which mesmerizes your body to move to the rhythm. Their music engulfs your senses, catapulting you to a new height of musical awareness. In an era of homogenized pop music, created with an eye toward making a profit rather than creating art, Burning Sage proves there are still musicians who pour themselves into the songwriting process.

The front woman and lyrist, Lin Sanders, sings and plays electric and acoustic guitars. Her breathy vocals and controlled vibrato hypnotize you, while her edgy lyrics bewitch and pull you into her mysterious world.

In her sexually-charged song, "Burn," Sanders croons from under her waist-length hair, "You consumed my mind. When are you going to finish what you started and consume my flesh? Consume me whole?"

The sticks of petite drummer, Sue Balaschak, move faster than the speed of lightning. She is the driving force of Burning Sage having played music professionally since the age of 12. She has been referred to as the Chops Mistress because of her prowess. Don't let her small stature fool you-her electrifying performance throughout each song as she trashes and pummels her drums provide an essential backdrop.

The Burning Sage sound is completed with the bass player, Lucy Marquez, who brings a strong anchor and melodic grooves to the mix. Her long fingers slide over the strings creating a penetrating, throbbing sound. Marquez's bass pulses through your veins, injecting you with a hint of her Puerto Rican roots, as she soars over each chord, melding all the instruments together harmoniously.

A highlight on the CD is "Pandora's Box." This nine and a half minute song explores the range of Lin's vocal tonality, her surging guitar streams, Lucy's deep, resounding bass, and Sue's relentless pounding of her Pearl drums. You fall prey instantly to the lure of these forbidden desires. Sander's melodic, raspy voice chants "open up the lid," but warns that "you get what you want, and then you get what you deserve" while the edgy, hard-driving riffs rock and sway you. At some performances, a tantalizing belly-dancer shimmers on stage during the instrumental portion of the song, catatonically dancing and shaking to the blend of their rhythms.

While meandering through the smoke and ash of Purification, one could get lost in a transcendental groove, melt into your chair, and just exist.

Although the band was just recently formed in January of 2002, Burning Sage has already been touring around the Midwest area, sharing billings with diverse national and international acts such as the Irish party band Gaelic Storm (seen in the movie, The Titanic), popular girrl rockers The Butchies and Michelle Malone, VH1 world-music artist Janah, and the Afro-Celtic fusion band from England, Baka Beyond.

Burning Sage is poised to take their place on a national stage and Purification may just be the vehicle to take them there."
