"It's the by far the most complete project I've ever been a part of," says Josue of the debut SKYLARK album I SHINE NOT BURN. "I believe that we captured the mood and continuity of this album, not only in the choice of songs we recorded, but also in the artwork we chose for the CD cover," adds Laura. The I SHINE NOT BURN artwork is peaceful and so are the songs on it, even the ones that really aren't. SKYLARK began when Scott Johnson, who co-produced and co-wrote some of the songs on the debut with Josue, was visiting Josue in 2005. As always when they get together, guitars where tuned and played with carefree joy. Laura happened to be in the room and asked if Scott and Josue knew how to play Willie Nelson's CRAZY. Scott began. Josue followed. And Laura shined. Scott and Josue immediately wanted to start things up, but Laura declined. Not much more was spoken of it until early 2006, when at the request of Laura's father, Laura and Josue put some original songs on CD for their wedding guests. The response was such that Laura and Josue were overwhelmed with requests for more material, and SKYLARK was born. Named after the non-descript bird with a beautiful song from Northern Britain, and the name given to young street singers in Jamaica, SKYLARK has begun to gain a bit of notoriety with the release of their debut album. Josue has been in numerous projects in the Virginia and Washington D.C. area, and says that all the lessons he has learned from those previous experiences only help to solidify the strong start that SKYLARK is currently embarking on. Laura loves to sing, and audiences love to hear her sing. They fall in love with the unique blend of Folk and Rock, and can't help but be carried away by the harmonized voices of the two that accentuate insightful and creative lyrical content. SKYLARK performs as a duo or as a four-piece, but no matter which incarnation one experiences, that fact is that their simple, beautiful acoustic numbers hypnotize and embrace audiences.
