Coming from the bowels of Central Maine, the birth of Trebuk is an interesting story. Lead singer/guitarist Bernard Roderick met his future bandmates Matt Bown, drums, and Grumpy J, lead guitar, after a night of partying at a local bar. Bernard was, shall we say, a bit disoriented after the bar closed, and attempted to get home to sleep this one off. His home that night turned out to be a train box car, about a mile from the bar. He awakens to future drummer Matt Bown, (and train yard worker) shaking him. Matt was accompanied by Security Officer Grumpy J, who was called to "remove the bum" from the property. Matt, noticing Bernards vomit-soaked Fender t-shirt, asked if he was in a band. Grumpy J said he too was a musician. Numbers exchanged and Trebuk was born. The bass player was to be found 3 months later, at a local rock show. Enter Lance Mckenzie, ex bassist for Red Lettuce. Bernard, J, and Matt all go out to the show to check out this new band. Red Lettuce was on that nite, tearing up the stage, when the singer seemed to be annoyed by the bass riffs being played by Lance, and seemed to yell something at him. Next thing you know, Lance is throwing his bass down and giving the finger to the singer. Trebuk recruits this angry young man and the band is now complete. It aint pretty, its rock and roll.
